I created a short video on ART on instagram .
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) helps your brain reprocess and reshape distressing memories, allowing you to move past emotional pain that may feel stuck. These memories are often tied to intense emotions, negative beliefs, or recurring thought patterns that disrupt your daily life. ART taps into your brain’s natural healing abilities, helping you replace distressing images with calm, manageable ones.
Brief and focused: Many clients experience relief in few sessions.
Nonverbal: Clients maintain control and are not required to discuss traumatic details aloud.
Versatile: ART has been used to treat PTSD, anxiety, depression, phobias, grief, pain management, addiction and more.
Evidence-based: Recognized by the American Psychological Association’s Division 12 as an evidence-based treatment.
According to research, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is effective for a range of mental health issues, including trauma, anxiety, depression, OCD, and even birth trauma. Whether you’re struggling with the lasting effects of trauma, persistent anxiety, or overwhelming stress, ART offers a structured and adaptable path to healing.

Whether you’re seeking relief from trauma or tools to improve your mental well-being, I am happy to consult and see if it is a fit for you. I offer in-person ART therapy in Calgary, Alberta.
Laney Rosenzweig, the founder of ART, explains the therapy’s principles, its rapid effects on trauma, and shares real-life examples of recovery. Watch ART founder’s TED talk here:

During your first ART session, after your consultation and/or learning about the therapy and how visualization and eye movements work to help reprocess distressing experiences.
The initial session is about building comfort and trust, allowing you to begin processing emotions, images and sensations in a way that feels manageable and empowering. Together, you’ll identify key memories, emotions, or challenges that will serve as the focus of therapy, ensuring the approach is personalized to your needs and this is done through tapping into your subconscious meaning that you do not need to talk and explain it. You'll also learn grounding and relaxation techniques to help you feel safe and in control throughout the session. With ART, healing happens at your own pace in a structured yet flexible way that promotes emotional clarity, resilience, and long-term well-being. Some people find one 90-minute session is effective, though it may take a few session.
During a session, myself (or your therapist) will guide you in identifying key memories and emotions causing distress. Through guided visualization and eye movements, you’ll process these experiences, reducing their emotional impact. The goal isn’t to erase the past... it is to change how your brain responds, freeing you from the emotional weight of those memories and allowing you to move forward with clarity and resilience.
ART vs. EMDR Therapy
While both Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) rely on eye movement therapy techniques, ART is often seen as more structured, directive, and rapid in achieving results. ART allows clients to voluntarily change the imagery associated with trauma, providing greater flexibility and empowerment in treatment. This approach is ideal for those seeking fast trauma recovery therapy.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) focuses on identifying and changing patterns that exist in our thoughts, beahviours and feelings through discussion and analysis. In contrast, ART therapy uses guided visualization techniques to reprocess and reduce the emotional charge tied to distressing experiences or memories that continue to limit our ability to move forward. This makes ART particularly effective for individuals who find it difficult to talk through their trauma or may be looking for additional therapeutic modalities in addition talk therapy.
Studies show that ART has a high success rate for reducing PTSD, anxiety, and depression symptoms, often within 1-5 sessions. Many clients experience significant relief in just 1-3 sessions, though some may benefit from additional sessions based on their needs.
For myself, I offer a personalized Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) approach designed to meet the unique needs of each individual I support. This is provided in conjunction with a person-centered plan that is rooted in evidenced-based practices.
* If you are a therapist looking for additional support with a client, I do offer ART focused therapy and am happy to consult, should your client consent. Have your client reach out directly to me for a free consult.
